The Alabama Dove Hunting Experience
Dove season is one of the most anticipated openers on the Southern hunting calendar. Groups of friends and families gather along the edge of a prepared field, spread out with buckets and low stools, and shoot fast-flying mourning doves as they work the food source at dawn and again in the late afternoon.
At Great Southern Outdoors, dove hunts take place on fields we plant and manage specifically to hold birds. Sunflowers, browntop millet, and grain sorghum are rotated across the property so we can put groups on productive fields throughout the season.
Our guides help position shooters, keep the field safe, and mark downed birds. If you're new to wingshooting or bringing kids on their first hunt, this is one of the most welcoming ways to introduce them to the tradition.
Dove Season Alabama — Dates & Regulations
Alabama sets mourning dove season each year in three splits, generally running from early September through mid-January, with daily bag limits published alongside the season dates. Because the exact dates and limits can change year to year, always confirm the current season on the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website before your trip.
Every hunter needs a valid Alabama hunting license and a free HIP (Harvest Information Program) registration. Non-resident licenses are available online. Federal migratory bird regulations also require plugged shotguns (no more than three shells total) and non-toxic or lead shot where posted.
