Great Southern Outdoors Wildlife Plantation is owned and operated by the Pritchett family dating back to the 1800’s. Six thousand acres of naturally beautiful land abundant with wildlife and full of southern heritage makes this a dream destination lodge for any outdoor enthusiast. The plantation consists of prime habitat for whitetail deer, eastern turkey, bobwhite quail, wild hogs and awesome fishing.
Our Location
Located in the famous Black Belt region of Alabama, the best hunting in the state, in Bullock County, #1 in the state for population of deer. GSO doe to buck ration is an impressive 1.4 to 1. This means hunters are just as likely to see a buck as they are a doe.
Allowing hunters to harvest 1 trophy (minimum 8 point w/16 inch spread), 2 does and 2 hogs, as well as offering a free hunt for the following season to all who tag out (as an incentive to take more does and hogs), has contributed to this ratio.
The opportunity for successful harvest of an 8 point or larger buck has held steady at 80% for the last several years. Great Southern Outdoors staff welcome the opportunity to show its guests true southern hospitality and the hunting or fishing trip of a lifetime.

What is Black Belt of Alabama?
It is named for it’s dark, rich soils and contains roughly between 12 and 21 counties in the central part of the state. The name is derived from early settler’s description of the abundant dark black soils found throughout the region. Several organizations within and outside the region are charged with the preservation of the Black Belt, Great Southern Outdoors is one who prides itself in preserving this rich resource.
Two "GSO Hall of Famers"
| Great Southern Outdoors is honored to recognize these 2 outdoorsmen under our Staff Hall of Fame for their involvement in creating what has grown to be one of the top hunting plantations in the south.
Over 20 years ago Mike Abrendt and Lee Watson used their skill as avid hunters and outdoorsmen to work along with the State of Alabama to set up management programs on our plantation that has led to the success of raising quality trophy whitetails. We will always be grateful for their vision and interest in Great Southern Outdoors.
